Abstract
The shape of the coronary artery velocity profile is an important determinant of local shear and shear stress gradients. In vivo velocity profiles of the left anterior descending coronary artery by Doppler ultrasound show differences in velocity distributions for canines (N=4) during acute hyperglycemia (HG) as compared to baseline (normoglycemia) conditions. Changes in the velocity profile indicate that HG may have a deleterious effect on coronary blood flow characteristics
