Abstract :
Nitric Oxide (NO) is known to mediate the excitotoxic injury caused due to overactivation of N-Methyl-D-Aspartate (NMDA) receptors. NO production in response to NMDA receptor activation is studied in three hippocampal subregions: the CA1, CA3 and the Dentate Gyrus (DG). These three regions are differentially sensitive to NMDA toxicity, with the degree of response being the highest in CA1 and the lowest in DG. The results show that the NO production in these regions is different and consistent with their sensitivity to NMDA
