Abstract :
Two time-stepping finite-element methods have been compared for the calculation of losses in induction motors. Both methods predicted losses within 6% of the measured value for an unskewed 2.2 kW motor. The eddy-current formulation is the method of choice for the calculation of losses in small, unskewed motors as it is faster and more accurate. However the coupled-circuit model may be more suitable for calculating the performance of skewed motors or in situations where the end-ring impedance is significant
