Abstract
In this paper, the new rotor structure of an interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor is accurately examined, highlighting how flux-barriers have to be designed to improve the motor performance. To this aim, the magnetic field in the rotor has been studied by a finite element analysis, that has been found to be particularly accurate for this type of motor. The parameters (PM flux linkage and d- and q-axis inductances) and the performance (torque-speed characteristic) of a classical IPM motor are compared with the same items of the novel design
