Abstract
Biohybrid systems, which are composed of biological motors of cells and artificial structure are potential candidates for increasing functions of micromechanical systems. We established a conversion mechanism of the linear motion of magnetically patterned microorganisms through a movable component. First, we developed a fabrication process of a movable component in a microchannel decorated with magnetic blocks. Second, cells of Vorticella were patterned around magnetic blocks in a microchannel using a magnetic force. Finally, a movable component was integrated with a cell to convert its motion. Reciprocating linear actuation was converted to the rotational motion through the movable component. Our developed technologies open the possibility of fabricating a wide range of biohybrid systems.
