Abstract
This work presents the discovery of fuzzy relations between terms focused on the automatic building of ontologies. In it, two kinds of relations are proposed for the ontology building: "physical relations" and "semantic relations", as well as a new factor for the co-influence between terms: "the physical distance". The physical distance between terms determinates the degree of relation between such terms, so, when two terms coexist in the same sentence the chance of being related is much higher than when they are located in different paragraphs. The ontology building process presents two main phases: "texts processing" and "calculation of the relation-between-terms coefficients". The results are being incorporated into the GUMSe metasearcher (developed in the SMILe framework) and focused on helping in the "query-expansion" phase.
