Abstract
A maximum likelihood method has been used to determine the onset of myoelectric (EMG) activity. It was tested on simulated EMG signals and on laboratory data. The method was also compared to three commonly applied methods for determining EMG onset. On simulated EMG signals, the maximum likelihood method exhibited a systematic error of less than 0.5 ms
