Abstract
In order to further improve the damping performances, a dual-band power system stabilizer (DBPSS) is designed in this paper. Based on the sixth-order machine representation, the accelerating power is regarded to be consisted of two components: the power component direct contributed by a PSS and the component without PSS effect. According to the relationships between the accelerating power and the associated eigenvalue, the effective PSS phase compensation range is obtained. The effect of PSSs with different phase compensation is analyzed. The dual-band PSS (DBPSS) is constructed in accordance with the needed phases for the inter-area and local modes. Parameters of the DBPSS are set in an eight-machine system. With six DBPSSs used, all eigenvalue in the testing system become stable.
