Author_Institution :

Abstract :
Two new Japanese traffic control projects are discussed, i.e., the ATIS (Advanced Traffic Information Service), and the development of an optical beacon. The former provides graphic traffic information in realtime for subscribed home and business offices by means of currently available new media, i.e., a PC communication network or a facsimile network through telephone lines or CATV networks with coaxial cable, and for the in-vehicle unit by means of mobile telephone network. The latter provides an optical, bilateral communication function.
