Abstract
The organizational context and the approach being adopted towards the achievement of pan-European standardization for ATT (advanced transport telematics) communications are described. A brief overview is given of ATT applications that require the use of short-range communication links, stressing the importance of defining a pan-European standard that will enable interoperability of equipment and encourage Europe-wide implementations. The work being carried out by CEN Technical Committee 278 Working Group 9, on the definition of standards requirements for the dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) link, is described, along with a commentary on the significance of this work in relation to ATT applications.
