  • Abstract
An approach to the routing of freeway traffic flow is formulated. A state space model is proposed for traffic flow in a freeway network. The model consists of a stochastic control system in which the state variables are densities and average speeds in freeway sections. The routing problem involves synthesizing a routing law that specifies directions such that the travel cost of network users is minimized
