Abstract
When installing transformers, protection of the environment, operational reliability, maintenance and fire risks are important considerations. This applies in particular to distribution transformers up to 2500 kVA which are often installed close to load centers. Conventional liquid-insulated or dry-type transformers do not always fully meet today´s requirements. In this paper, the present state of development of gas-insulated transformers is discussed. The fact that they are totally enclosed (safe to touch), their neutral gas filling, and the extremely small quantity of insulating material required, are described in detail
