  • Abstract
    ISDB-T (terrestrial integrated services digital broadcasting) is the transmission scheme used for digital terrestrial broadcasting in Japan. The mobile reception environment in ISDB-T is a Doppler spread environment, in which multiple incident waves are received at different levels, with different delay times and with different Doppler shifts caused by mobile reception. The directional diversity reception method is effective in this reception environment. This method independently separates incident waves using directional antennas, compensates their Doppler shifts and implements diversity combining. In this paper, we propose a directional diversity reception method that uses an M(multiple)-MSN(maximum signal-to-noise ratio) adaptive array. We then show by computer simulation that the proposed method provides excellent reception characteristics for high-speed mobile reception of HDTV (high definition television) in ISDB-T.
