Abstract
In 1992, the Telematics and Dangerous Goods project (TGS, Dutch abbreviation) began. In this project, twenty trucks used to transport dangerous goods were equipped with onboard computers, communication facilities and sensors. In the case of a dangerous situation, a structured alarm message is sent to the highway police and the trucking company. The overall aim of the project is to gain practical experience with telematic systems in multi-purpose applications.
