Abstract
The fundamental concepts applied in a pan-European distributed information system for racing and tracking of wagon and load unit movements for intermodal road/rail freight transport, named CombiCom, are discussed. Specific topics addressed include architectural principle requirements, elementary data set and operation, system status, and system software implementation.
