Abstract
The basic advantage of stepper motors over other types of motors is that it can be driven by digital and open-loop control. However an open loop control shows a poor dynamic performance and is insufficient in precise motions which require a high dynamic, so a closed loop control is required. This paper describes field oriented control which will improve the dynamic performance of the Hybrid stepper motor(HSM). The two phase currents of the motor are controlled in d-q axis transformation. At start-up the initial rotor position is detected by the impulse current method. This method derives the maximum theoretical performance from the motor. The control System is designed based on the powerful dSPACE DS1103 controller board. It allows programming dynamic real-time systems with Matlab/Simulink environment.
