Abstract
This research proposes a conceptual framework (called anylayer routing) to investigate routing approaches needed by the evolving Internet. The emerging content-based routing, directory-based routing, and service-based routing in the Internet are thus discussed through the framework. In addition, the effects of the framework on the internetworking are evaluated, which relates to network planning, network operations, and service provision
