  • Abstract
The work of S. Skogestad et al. (1988) has generated some interest in controller design for ill-conditioned distillation systems. It has also raised questions of detail concerning the utility of H-based controller synthesis methods for such plants. The aim of the design case study is to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of various design methods for ill-conditioned systems. The linearized distillation column model of S. Skogestad et al. has been chosen as a theme problem for the design case study because it is relatively simple, it has already been publicized, and it has interesting dynamics from a control systems design point of view. The aim of the present work is to describe the distillation system and to supply the case study specifications
