Abstract
Installation of high voltage converters for network controllers in HVDC and FACTS devices are reviewed in this paper. Various concerns on commissioning HVDC or FACTS devices for effective power transfer controllability are analyzed as applied to power networks especially with long transmission lines. The application of HVDC is reported from the case study given in this paper. The tool-ware that is used for the analysis is power system analysis toolbox (PSAT) and Matlab Simulink. The use of HVDC and FACTS is compared and discussed to determine the possible enhancement or effects to consider when embedding both devices in a given power system. Recommendations are made in order to determine whether HVDC or FACTS should be applied; particularly for the deregulated energy market
