Abstract :
The lightning impulse breakdown voltage of a model, 145 kV GIS disconnector was studied using SF6/N2 mixtures. Mixtures with between 0% and 15% SF6 were used. Sphere-sphere, point-plane and sphere-rod geometries were studied. In most cases, breakdown strength increased with both SF6 content and pressure. In the case of surface flashover, a pressure of about 8 bar with 15% SF6, gave roughly equivalent results to that of 4 bar pure SF6
