Abstract :
We describe recent experimental investigations on optical frequency standards based on the 436 nm and 467 nm reference transitions of a trapped ytterbium ion. We report a new absolute frequency measurement of the 436 nm (688 THz) standard that was conducted together with measurements of the quadrupole shift caused by the electric stray field. The highly forbidden electric-octupole transition at 467 nm was resolved with a linewidth of 13 Hz.
