Abstract :
The term inhibited discharge is the name given to the situation in which the current in an electrical discharge is limited by a high series resistance in the discharge circuit. The objective of the work presented in this paper was to examine how a series resistance of up to 4 MΩ influences the duration of the final jump for rod-plane gaps of length 0.5 m and 1 m. It was found that the duration of the final jump increases with increasing series resistance. Furthermore, the duration of the final jump is well predicted by a physical model of the inhibited discharge presented previously
