Abstract :
A nonlinear model for the stretch reflex has recently been used to study the interactions between voluntary and reflex controls during fast, targeted movements. This study explores the topography of a behavior space associated with the model parameters. Such a space is generally defined by a set of behavioral characteristics. Any model can therefore be considered a mathematical map from the parameter space to a behavior space. The authors chose a one-dimensional behavior space defined by the RMS error between a simulation output and a set of experimental data and explored it in three stages. The results allow them to compare quantitatively the different possible neurological control strategies for executing fast, targeted movements.<>
