Abstract :
Two applications of optimal control theory are considered. The first is related to the optimal design of a wastewater outfall, while the second concerns a problem in food technology: the sterilization of canned foods. In both cases, it is necessary to solve state-constrained optimal control problems. The authors prove the existence of the solution and optimality conditions. Numerical algorithms are also given
