Abstract
A novel tracking control algorithm is developed and proposed for multimodel deterministic systems using the variable structure control technique (VSS). The location phase is achieved using an auxiliary input called the state correction to minimize the difference between the process variables and the model variables. The control phase is achieved using the VSS to make use of the advantages of the sliding mode which helps, in the case of using deterministic models, to compensate the disturbances and the process variations. The control algorithm is implemented using FORTRAN-77 on the HP-1000 computer system and interfaced to a nonlinear thermal process. A practical application on a single-input single-output control loop of this process is presented, and the real-time results are compared to those of the classical optimal multimodel controller to show the potential of the proposed algorithm
