  • Abstract
Near real-time Ice and Snow Extent (NISE) estimates, produced and distributed by the National Snow and Ice Data Center, are presented. The estimates, derived from the DMSP SSM/I passive microwave instrument, provides daily, global, near real-time (< 24 hrs) fields of sea ice concentrations and snow extent. We summarize both the science algorithms and systems engineering involved in producing a near-real time product
