Abstract :
Summary form only given. The author explores companies from industries which do not have large local customers operating in the global markets. The focus is innovations made by small firms with less than 30 employees coming from a small economy, Finland. Furthermore, the author focuses on the individual entrepreneurs on their attempts to operate in global markets. The author found that the companies use a lot of networking in executing their activities. The conclusion is three fold. First, a small firm has to be highly specialized and adjusted to problem solution in specific sectors. Second, the idea must be well protected. Third, in commercialization the use of complementary assets is extremely important and the background and experience of the entrepreneurs mostly define the level of the use of complementary assets
