Abstract :
Summary form only given as follows. Successful technology managers face many challenges in order to be effective contributors in technology. The technical people they supervise often lack many of the resources available to technical managers for enhancing performance problems often cited by customers and managers. As a result, managers are often frustrated with marginally performing staff members while a few members stand out. Following are some of the common concerns about technical people from technical managers and customers of technical services. There is too much focus on technology implementation that is not necessarily in line with customer requirements. Client relations are not nurtured; therefore, technical team members do not always act as if they are working with clients toward a common goal. There is a lack of business indoctrination and too much emphasis is placed on technical ability and not enough emphasis on business core competencies. By listing some common complaints from managers and customers, the problems have been reviewed more closely and suggestions to correct the problems have been developed based on fifteen traits of top performers
