Abstract :
Power companies are arranging regular training sessions to keep their operators ready to face blackout events, and expert systems are playing an important role in achieving this goal. Conventional rule-based expert systems suffer from the conflict of rules in large systems. Conflict of rules also occurs during rule modifications. This paper describes a simple and flexible expert system using a case-based reasoning technique that can overcome the drawbacks of rule-based expert systems. An object-oriented graphical user interface is developed to assist and guide operators during restoration. The proposed solutions for possible blackout events are verified by mathematical analyses.
