Abstract :
When global economy affects the employment patterns and the professional life of CSET graduates, courses that provide students with marketable skills become attractive. However, the rapidly emerging area creates new pedagogical challenges. For example, teaching the course of Web services with XML and SOAP faces the problems of too many Web standards and constantly changing course materials. This paper introduces a "two-tier" approach using an on-line tutorial to teach students emerging Web services technologies with the goal of teaching students marketable skills, and also eliminating unnecessary prerequisites including Java programming experiences with the option of accessing an on-line textbook. In this work in progress paper, the concept of Web services is introduced first. Then, the pedagogical issues are discussed. The solution of using an on-line Java Web service tutorial is explained. Finally, the teaching experiences are presented
