Abstract :
The lead-time for research and development is decreasing. In such a situation, faster realization of results in research and development is required. Product technology and manufacturing engineering are complementing each other and the concurrent development of both technologies is becoming more and more important. The purpose of this study is to identify the key factors in the successful accomplishment of manufacturing engineering goal and to make an effective contribution to the management. The authors have reviewed the entire process sequence of manufacturing, starting from the research phase to realization. Two case studies are presented, one for the concurrent development of product technology and manufacturing engineering and the other for the development of production equipment
