Abstract :
OceanServer Technology, Inc. has designed two new solid state 3-axis Attitude Sensors tailored for applications in the marine environment where size, functionality and cost are keys to successful integration. One unique feature of these compass heading/attitude sensor modules is the ability to connect directly to a pressure transducer to sense the depth of an underwater device, such as an AUV, ROV, Profiler, etc. The OS3000 model is a small, 1.3" times 1.7" module, yet it provides both an RS-232 and a USB port for easy system interface. The OS1000 compass has all the same features as the OS3000, minus the USB port, but is even smaller, measuring just one inch square - possibly the smallest high-performance digital compass in the world. Size is very important, since the compass should be mounted as far away from noise or iron sources as possible to improve heading accuracy, and because marine devices are often packaged in small, odd-shaped housings
