  • Abstract
    “Consulting on demand” or “design on demand” is considered to be of increasing importance in internet commerce of complex products. These are assumed to have many degrees of freedom, meaning that they have many variables allowing many variations which all have to be specified before a make-to-order manufacturing step can take place. Almost every technical specification adheres to multiple criteria which have to be traded off. Individual criteria either are obvious scoring functions or they are proxy scoring functions. Values of functions may be extremely simple to compute for some criteria, but for others they require intricate computations. These are addressed by devising efficient algorithms. This step is crucial and it deserves quite some attention. Fast algorithms for the computation of scoring functions are thus critical to success
