Abstract
Summary form only given. The Engineering Management Program (EMP) at the University of Pretoria is now in its tenth year of operation. The success of the program has led to the establishment of the Department of Engineering and Technology Management in the Faculty of Engineering. This paper provides an overview of the evolution of both the program and the suggests some views on the discipline of management, and observations and lessons learned. A brief description is also provided of several academic initiatives that have since spun-off from the EMP and now form part of the Department´s product portfolio
