Abstract
The authors examine the effect of various ignitron parameters when the device operates at high energy and Coulomb levels. The relationship between peak current and coulombs is considered, and results are given in the form of a graph showing an effective working region. Results of high-Coulomb operation, above the manufacturers rated values, are also given. Curves are presented giving the resistive arc drops for a range of pulse-duty ignitrons (sizes A, D, and E) currently in general use, covering the peak current from 10 kA to 80 kA. Information on ignitron selection, predicted life, and methods of connection is also included
