Abstract
A mathematical model is proposed for the schooling behavior of fish. Using observation data from a water tank experiment, the model parameters are estimated. The fish behavior is regarded as an example of an autonomous decentralized system. Several phenomena that are shown to be effects of the autonomous decentralized mechanism are investigated by computer simulation
