Abstract :
A novel tunable stacked microstrip antenna is proposed in this paper, and the characteristics are simulated including a varactor diode loss. Four varactor diodes are embedded along the non-radiating edges of the patch and a reverse DC bias is applied to change the tuning frequency. The gain is low at large capacitance of the varactor. However by staking a parasitic patch on the driven patch, the antenna efficiency remarkably enhances and gain increases. Consequently, the wide tuning range of 2.6-5GHz (63%) is achieved and the capability is confirmed experimentally.
