Abstract
The benefit accrual model, a framework for specifying, attaining, and evaluating timeliness, is presented. It generalizes the traditional special cases of deadlines as time constraints and unanimous optimum as the scheduling criterion. Consequently, this framework scales to encompass nondeterministic asynchronous decentralized systems
