Abstract :
We discovered and grew a new NLO crystal K/sub 2/Al/sub 2/B/sub 2/O/sub 7/ (KAB). KAB crystals were grown from high temperature solution in a five-zone vertical electric furnace by means of TSSG. Determined by 4-axis XRD, the KAB structure was similar to that of Sr/sub 2/Be/sub 2/B/sub 2/O/sub 7/ (SBBO). We measured the optical properties. It has moderate SHG coefficient and birefringence and wide transparency in the UV region.
