Abstract
This paper summarizes practical experiences from the application of a wide area monitoring system applied in a real network environment. As network a reduced scale model representing a subsystem of the Swiss transmission grid has been chosen. New methodologies for wide area control and monitoring are demonstrated: The detection of power oscillations, an approach for the utilization of a wide area monitoring system for state estimation and the application area of coordinated control of power flow controllers.
