Abstract
In this paper, we introduced a novel photonic crystal structure to perform pulse position modulation. The proposed device, which can be used in optical integrated circuits, consists of a delay line and an all-optical switch. Reducing the group velocity in the PC waveguide, results in further reduction of the device size. The transmission loss was lowered by modifying the sharp bends in the structure. The all-optical switch, which is formed by a nonlinear directional coupler, controls the modulation process and has an extinction ratio more than 25 dB. The frequency of the control signal is chosen to decrease the required power.
