Abstract :
To investigate UWB-IR communication using ultra-low power and an ultra-short impulse for a wireless body area network, a prototype transceiver was fabricated and its characteristics were observed. The fabricated transmitter generated Gaussian monocycles of a few hundred picoseconds, which were modulated by the TH-PPM. The receiver correlated the received signal with a template pulse and performed demodulation by generating a positive or negative output corresponding to data ldquo0rdquo or ldquo1,rdquo respectively. Multi-channel co-existence of the ultra-short impulse communication was also investigated through theoretical analysis and experimental observations using the fabricated transceiver. The experimental BER did not show a clear dependence on the difference between the PRFs of the two transmitters; this observation is consistent with the theoretical prediction.
