Abstract :
The Digital Multiplex Switch (DMS) is Nortel´s digital public switching product line. To compete successfully in the global marketplace, telephone service providers must be able to offer a broad range of advanced services. An architecture in which services are independent from the underlying resources enables the support of evolving global standards and the rapid development of custom features. This paper describes how advanced services such as intelligent networks (IN) and personal communications services (PCS) are supported by means of achieving service independence through a new telecommunications architecture
