Abstract
The problem of 1-D profile reconstruction has been investigated by applying the DE and PSO techniques. Numerical results show that both methods have adequate results in the case of inverse scattering problems. Although PSO has better convergence rate in the beginning iterations and smoother variations of cost and evaluation functions, DE leads to more precise reconstruction in higher number of iteration. It is to be noted that since the size of population and the number of iterations are considered to be the same, computation time for both techniques is almost identical.
