Abstract
This paper proposes a simple, new preamble scheduling and detection scheme for cell selection in cooperative relay networks with fixed non-transparent relay stations. This new technique divides the available preambles into non-overlapping groups, each of which is pre-assigned to a different cell with a single base station and multiple relay stations. Cell selection is achieved by locating the cell with the largest combined preamble detection outcome among the candidate cells. Performance results are presented which illustrate that the proposed scheme reduces the cell selection error rate compared with existing selection schemes.
