  • Abstract
A new tuneable frequency up-convertor circuit in CMOS 0.13/im technology, using a 4th order tuneable continuous-time bandpass (CTBP) ΣΔ modulator in combination with Manchester coder and decoder, is presented. The top level post-layout transistor level simulation and experimental results with circuit details are shown. An example of a noise shaped signal up-converted to a higher frequency range while preserving the noise shaping effect is demonstrated. The circuit typically consumes 3.3 mW while powered from 1.2 V power supply, and occupies area of 410 × 430 μm. A 1:3 ratio tuneable differential gm stage that typically consumes 250 μ, W is used as a basic building block. Suitability of the proposed architecture is discussed within the context of frequency-hopping and software-defined radio.
