Abstract
A description is given of a microstrip radiator consisting of a circular patch in water and working at 130 MHz. The use of deionized water as a high-permittivity material for the ´substrate´ allows the realization of compact, low-weight applicators for direct-contact, medium-depth treatments. The water filling the radiator also provides a good electrical transition between the antenna and the treated tissues and prevents surface overheating. Depths up to 6 cm and maximum cross sections larger than 10 cm diameter can be reached, with surface temperatures of 4-5 degrees C.<>
