Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a method for predicting the thermal sensation level (TSL) of an automobile passenger using a neural network, and an automobile heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system controlled by the predicted TSL. TSL was predicted by a neural network from the facial skin temperature and the interior air temperature of an automobile, and the mean error of the prediction was 0.5 unit of the thermal scale used. The HVAC system controlled by the predicted TSL could change the air conditioning level according to a thermal state of the passenger
