Abstract :
The authors describe low-voltage pulsers which combine both batteries and chemical double-layer (CDL) capacitors to achieve long-duration (>1 s), high-power pulses which could be suitable for powering a number of devices such as EMLs, solid-state laser arrays and magnetic-field coils. Several laboratory devices are described ranging from Marx circuits to Type-A Guillemin lines. Since CDL capacitors are inherently low-voltage devices with modest equivalent series resistance (ESR), restrictions exist on operating voltages, allowable ESR, pulser impedance and the absolute value of the capacitors. These parameter restrictions are discussed in terms of what can be achieved as a result of research in progress
