Summary form only given. Strained layer AlxGay In1-x-yAs MQW structures used in the manufacture of highly reliable lasers at 1.3 μm and 1.5 μm are reviewed. These lasers are capable of operating over a wide temperature range for uncooled digital applications and at high speed for analog and microwave applications
